FINS Head Coach
Coach Mike started swimming at Tilden Woods when he was six years old. After winning the MCSL long course meet in the 50 free when he was eight, he figured he had some natural talent in the pool. It was shortly afterwards that Mike started swimming competitively year round in Potomac Valley Swimming. Once a week swims soon turned into nine practices a week, and by the time Mike was a sophomore at Walter Johnson, Mike was one of the best high school swimmers in the country. It was hard work, but he loved it! He continued his career at the University of Virginia where he was an All-American all four years and graduated in 2005. Mike was a top performer at two Olympic trials and a finalist in 2004. Mike has held Pan American records in the 200 butterfly, and his ACC 200 Fly record is the only “pre- hi tech swim suit era” record to still stand today! Mike believes swimming is a lifelong skill and strives to have his swimmers grow to love it in their own way. During Coach Mike’s practice you can find him focusing heavily on proper technique by striving to instill a sense of self-awareness in each of his swimmers.
