*A group lessons program offered to beginner swimmers who feel fully comfortable in deep (4.5+) water. FINS coaches will work with swimmers in a group setting to continue to develop skills for a successful freestyle and backstroke and introduce kicking skills for the breaststroke and butterfly strokes. Practices take place in a 15-meter section of the pool at outdoor facilities, and in a 25-yard section of the pool at indoor facilities.
*Seahorses is a great group for swimmers who are able to comfortably swim across 25 yd/m of the pool unassisted with elements of a freestyle stroke but are still learning to put the components of the stroke (arm strokes, kicking, side breathing) together. These swimmers also feel comfortable kicking on their back independently and are ready to begin to add arm strokes.
*In order to participate, swimmers must feel comfortable in deep (4.5+ ft.) water independently and be able to complete a 25 yd/m (one length of the pool) with elements of a freestyle stroke. Swimmers should feel comfortable kicking and floating on their back for 15 yd/m.
Note: Parents are able to view the pool and session from a designated seating area or from outside of the facility, but are not allowed to be in immediate proximity to the practice. Those more advanced beginner swimmers who feel comfortable swimming beyond 25 yd/m of the pool and already have a more developed freestyle and backstroke will be able to transition into more advanced groupings after being evaluated during practice. Divisions within this group will exist based on swimmer abilities.
The Seahorses swimming program is designed specifically for beginner II swimmers who are comfortable in deep water. This program focuses on helping participants develop essential swimming skills in a safe and supportive environment, ensuring they gain confidence in their abilities.
Through structured lessons, swimmers will practice key techniques including freestyle, backstroke, and an introduction to breaststroke and butterfly. The program emphasizes a gradual progression that allows each swimmer to build their skills at their own pace while receiving personalized attention from qualified instructors.
To enroll in the Seahorses swimming program, swimmers must meet specific criteria to ensure safety and success. Participants should feel comfortable swimming independently in deep water and must be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards or meters across the pool unassisted.
This requirement guarantees that all swimmers in the program have a foundational level of skill, which allows instructors to focus on refining techniques rather than basic water safety. Parents can feel secure knowing their children are in a group with similar skill levels, fostering a conducive learning atmosphere.
The Seahorses program is structured around group lessons that encourage teamwork and camaraderie among participants. Each session is carefully planned to include a warm-up, skill development, and practice of new techniques, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Instructors utilize a variety of teaching methods, including demonstrations and guided practice, to cater to different learning styles. This approach not only helps swimmers grasp the techniques more effectively but also makes the learning process enjoyable and engaging.
Parental involvement is highly encouraged in the Seahorses program. Parents have the opportunity to observe lessons, allowing them to see firsthand the progress their children are making and the techniques being taught.
This transparency fosters a supportive environment where parents can engage with their children about their swimming experiences. Additionally, it helps parents understand the importance of practice and reinforces the skills learned during lessons, contributing to the swimmer's overall development.
